Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamil Nadu Vibhag, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kanyakumari, organized a Mother's Day celebration at the school premises on 16th March 2024, starting at 4 p.m.
The event was graced by Smt. T. Geetha Radhakrishnan, the District Secretary of Seva Bharati, who attended as the chief guest. The celebration saw participation from students and mothers, with a total attendance of 210 people. The role of Master of Ceremony was carried out by Smt. V. Subalakshmi.
The program began with a prayer by Smt. B. Rekha Devi, followed by a welcoming address from Smt. S. Hema. Smt. Malarmathi delivered a speech highlighting the importance of the day. A mother, who had won the first prize in a music competition, presented a beautiful and melodious song.
During the event, mothers Smt. Deiva Jeyajothi, Smt. K. Saranya, and Smt. Nithya shared their experiences. They expressed their joy and nostalgia, recalling their own childhoods and expressing their eagerness to participate in such events every year. They also expressed their curiosity about the competition and their anticipation for this day.
The chief guest, Smt. T. Geetha Radhakrishnan, addressed the audience and advised mothers to interact with their children daily with a positive attitude, emphasizing not to compare their children with others. She shared insights about Hindu Dharma through short incidents from the lives of Swami Vivekananda and Jijabai. She emphasized that women possess all talents and encouraged them to bring out their hidden talents, envisioning a developed nation if they do so. She concluded by stating, “A mother is the best example of love and affection.”
The winners of the Mother's Day celebration were honored by the chief guest, and as a token of appreciation, a memento was presented to her by the correspondent, Sri R. Subbiah Nadar. Smt. B. S. Sangeetha delivered the vote of thanks, and the program concluded with the Shanthi Mantra.
