Vivekananda Kendra started its service activities in 1976. Since its establishment, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV) in Port Blair has emerged as a cornerstone of educational excellence in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. From its humble beginning as a nursery school in a rented building, it has transformed into a Senior Secondary school, offering both Science and Commerce streams. The school's commitment to academic excellence is exemplified by several milestones. Our first batch class X appeared in the CBSE examination in 1988 and class XII batch appeared in the year 2000.
VKV Port Blair's academic prowess is underscored by its remarkable feat of winning the Hon'ble Lt. Governor's Award for the best school in the A&N Islands an impressive eight times from 2000 to 2017. Beyond academics, the institution has earned prestigious accolades, including the Hon'ble President's Computer Literacy Excellence Award for 2003-2004 and the A & N administration's Computer Literacy award.
The institution places equal emphasis on co-curricular activities, fostering a holistic development approach that addresses students' physical, mental, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions. Activities such as Samskar Vargas, Personality development camps, Bhajan Sandhya, Yoga Camps, and Swadhyaya Vargas play a pivotal role in instilling Indian cultural values. VKV Port Blair's unwavering dedication to education and character-building continues to mould the future of young minds with a profound spirit of service and excellence.
As a result of the excellent performance of the Vidyalaya at Port Blair, demand came from various corner of the Islands to start Schools in their areas, which gave birth to schools in Rangat, Hutbay, later Zilla Parishad A&N Islands came forward to support Vivekananda Kendra by providing necessary assistance to open schools in seven more places in Andaman’s. The schools were started in Basantipur, Port Mout, Kadamtala, Diglipur, Pahalgaon, Ferrargunj, Ranchi Tekri and Shore point.
These educational institutions not only serve as centres for academic learning but also stand as pillars for realizing Vivekananda Kendra’s profound motto “Man Making and Nation Building”. VKV Port Blair celebrates diverse achievements: students excel in Science Congress, Drawing and Painting contests and shine in martial arts with victories in National and International Karate Championships. Internationally, students participated in japan’s”JENESYS” program,forstering global awareness. Notably, Olake Great Andamaness student,made history as the first civil engineer from the tribe.The school band constiently excels in competitions, reflecting VKV Port Blair’s commitment to holistic development.
