Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant, Rural Development Program (VKRDP) organized Anna Puja on the auspicious occasion of Tamil Puthandu (New Year Day) on 14th April 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Administration Office, VKRDP, Thoothukudi.
The program commenced with the lighting of the Deepa by Smt. Manju, a well-wisher, followed by prayer led by Smt. Pazhaniatchi, Book Store Incharge. Smt. P. Thamizhselvi, Social Worker, extended a warm welcome to all participants.
As part of the spiritual offerings, the Annapurna Stotra and the 11th Chapter of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita – Viśvarūpa Darśana Yoga were chanted by all attendees, led by Smt. Kavitha, Balasevika. Smt. Selvarani offered the Naivedyam, and the Arati was performed by Smt. Ponarasi, Well-wisher, and Smt. Gowri Rajasekar, Nagar Sah Sanchalak of the Thoothukudi Branch.
The rice collected from the public as an act of devotion and sacrifice was offered by Shri. Ponkumar ji and received by Shri. Ayyappan Anna, Secretary of VKRDP.
Under the “Adopt a Granny” Scheme, elders were provided with rice and other essential provisions. These were distributed by Shri. Achuthan Ganesh, grandson of Smt. Subhatra Vetrivel, Thoothukudi Nagar Sanchalak.
The event was presided over by Sri N. Krishnamoorthy (Anna ji), Senior Jeevan Vrati karyakarta, who blessed the gathering. Smt. Gowri Rajasekar shared insights about the Amutha Kudumbam (Amrut Parivar) initiative, and Shri. Ayyappan Anna spoke on values to be practiced in day-to-day life. Smt. K. Ramalakshmi delivered the vote of thanks. Prasadam was distributed to all attendees.
In total, 1,700 kilograms of rice were collected from the public in surrounding areas, and a total of 100 people participated in the event. The program was organised through the collective efforts of Balasevikas, office staffs, social workers, and dedicated well-wishers.
