Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamil Nadu Vibhag, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kanyakumari, celebrated Teachers’ Day on 5th September 2024, starting at 10.00 a.m., with a total of 126 students and teachers attending the program.
Teachers’ Day is observed annually on 5th September to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan—a philosopher, scholar, teacher, and the second President of Independent India—who dedicated his life to education.
Sri R. Krishnan ji, a former teacher at VKV and retired government school teacher, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The program began with three Omkars and Sahanavavathu, followed by a melodious Guru song performed by Sri Manikumar ji. Smt. P. Jeya welcomed the gathering.
In his address, Sri Krishnan emphasized that teaching is the noblest profession and shared that teachers never feel envious of their students' growth. He quoted Swami Vivekananda: “Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man,” and fondly recalled his time teaching at VKV as golden moments.
Teachers were appreciated for their dedicated service, and the Chief Guest was honored by the school's correspondent, Sri Subbiah Nadar. The event concluded with the Shanti Mantra.
On this special day, students were encouraged to take on the role of teachers, dressing in formal attire and teaching lessons in classrooms. Student-teachers included S. Infant Fiano (Class XI A) as Correspondent, X. Casilda Crosslin (Class XI A) as Principal, and K. R. Mathu Sree and S. Anbu Mathiya as Vice Principals. They performed their roles exceptionally well and gave speeches highlighting the significance of the day. The involvement of students in taking on teaching roles added a unique and memorable touch to the event, highlighting the respect and admiration for teachers' tireless efforts in imparting knowledge and values.
Several student-teachers enthusiastically shared their experiences, and the best performers were awarded by Dr. R. Sundara Kumar ji. Overall, the celebration was a heartfelt tribute to the educators who shape the future of the nation.
