Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari in association with District Blindness Control Society, Tinsukia district, Assam organized one free cataract surgery camp on 10th August 2017 at Civil Hospital, Chapakhowa, Sadiya, Assam. During the camp 32 patients were successfully operated by the eye surgery team of Tinsukia Civil Hospital. Dr.G.S. Gogoi(Senior Eye Surgeon, Civil Hospital, Tinsukia ) and Dr. Alaka Devi(Eye Surgeon, Civil Hospital, Tinsukia) conducted the surgeries . The screening for patients with cataracts was started from 24th July and all the patients registered their names well in advance.
It is to be mentioned that Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari decided to conduct one such camp every month till March 2018 in Sadiya in collaboration with District Blindness Control Society, Tinsukia as more than thousand elderly people are suffering from cataracts in this remote subdivision of Assam. The next cataract surgery camp will be on 4th September 2017 at the same venue and screening has been already started for the next camp.
