Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vallioor, celebrated the 80th Independence Day on 15 August 2026 at the school premises. The programme commenced at 9:30 a.m. and witnessed the participation of 572 students, staff and guests. Rtn. Shri Jeya Ganesh, President, Rotary Club, Vallioor, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, and Shri S.K. Subramanian, Correspondent, VKV MHSS, Vallioor, presided over the programme.
The celebration commenced with a prayer song and Tamil Thai Vazhthu, followed by the welcome address delivered by Selvi Suji of Class IX. The Chief Guest hoisted the National Flag in the presence of Rtn. Shri Innocent Raja, Secretary; Rtn. Shri Vignesh Kanthan, Treasurer; and Rtn. Dr. Selvendren, IPP, Rotary Club, Vallioor. This was followed by the Flag Song rendered by the school choir.
Addressing the gathering, Rtn. Shri Jeya Ganesh spoke about the significance of Independence and encouraged the students to understand and value the freedom achieved through the sacrifices of our freedom fighters.
The cultural programme featured a mass drill, flag exercise, Bharatanatyam, Yoga demonstration, patriotic dance and pyramid formation. Selvi Anjana also delivered a speech in English on the significance of freedom.
Prizes were distributed to students who had excelled in competitions held in connection with Kamarajar’s Birth Anniversary and in zonal-level Throwball, Athletics and Silambam competitions.
Selvi Indhuja of Class XII proposed the vote of thanks. The celebration concluded with the National Anthem and distribution of sweets.
