Activity report of Vivekananda Kendra Rural Development Program for month July 2012
ONAM is the biggest harvest festival and the most important festival of the state of Kerala and is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm irrespective of caste or community. ONAM is celebrated in the beginning of the month of chingam, the first month of Malayalam calendar (kollavarsham). This corresponds with the month of August-September according to gregoriam calendar.
No bird soars too high, if it soars with its own wings.”These words of the famous poet William Blake remind us the need of organised efforts to achieve the desired results.
The whole month witnessed a series of organised efforts to plan, re- visit the goals set with the guidance of Kendra Elders, taking stock of the activities conducted so far, analysing the exam results of Class X & XII and finalising the activities for the 150th Birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny and now the time comes, when we will redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in the history when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed finds utterance. We end today a period of ill fortune and India discovers herself again.
The Science & Mathematics workshop was started in VIVEKANANDA KENDRA VIDYALAYA(VKV), Ramnagar, Silchar from 4th of August 2012 under the guidance of Kum. Lalita Didi, Joint Secretary Vivekananda Kendra Siksha Prasar Vibhag. Two resource teachers Sri Sonu Gupta of VKV, Tinsukia and Sri Biju Rai Singhania of VKV, Umrangso along with ten resource students from VKV Tinsukia, VKV, Dibrugarh, VKV Tingrai, VKV Umrangso were present.

Dear Friend of VK-nardep,
This month we bring in our newsletter an excerpt from a concept paper that deals with cultural values and bio-diversity conservation. In their paper ‘Integrating Cultural, Spiritual and Ethical Dimensions into Conservation Practice in a Rapidly Changing World',by Mark Infield & Arthur Mugisha, the authors bring out very clearly how each sub-set of cultural values are closely linked to various aspects of nature conservation.
This gives a valuable framework for nature and bio-diversity conservation through culture. For a society like that of Indian society such a framework is very much important and relevant.
We bring you the various activities that are happening at VK-nardep including the free medical camps, workshops on the revival of ancient and endangered traditional medical system, Bio-methanation plant training programme and installation of bio-methanation plants in Tamil Nadu.
