Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamil Nadu Vibhag, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kanyakumari, celebrated Gurupurnima in Swami Vivekananda Sabhagriham at Vivekanandapuram Campus on 22nd July 2024, starting at 2:30 p.m.
A total of 1,180 students attended the program. Sri Baktha Lakshana Giri Maharaj from Gopinath Gaudiya Math, Kovilpatti, graced the occasion as the honorable Chief Guest, and the program was presided over by Sri Krishna Kumar Ji, Vanaprasthi Karyakartha of Vivekananda Kendra. Kum. A.K.Mahima from IX-C served as the master of ceremonies.
The program commenced promptly at 2:30 p.m. with an invocation. Kum. Y.R.Akshana of class IX welcomed the gathering. To express gratitude to the teachers, Guru Stotram was sung by all the students present. Following that, Kum. S.C.S.Aranya Devi of class IX delivered a speech in Tamil about the significance of the day.
Students of class VIII dedicated a melodious song to the teachers. Kum.L.K.Swetha of class IX shared the importance of Gurupurnima and described the Guru as an inspiration.
Sri Baktha Lakshana Giri Maharaj began his speech by chanting the mantra, “Om Sri Ram, Jaya Ram, Jaya Jaya Ram Jaya Guru Deva.” The students repeated the chanting for five minutes. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of good behavior and discipline in life. Maharaj highlighted the roles of the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon through a story. He explained the virtues of patience, the concept of one God, and the immortality of the soul. He also advised the students to respect their teachers.
Smt. Thanga Rathi, a teacher, read out the names of students who received the meancum merit and merit scholarships. The honorable Chief Guest handed over the scholarship cards to the students. Teachers who secured centum results in the academic year 2023-2024 were also honored.
Sri Krishna Kumar Ji enriched the minds of the students by giving three key points to follow in their lives: note important events observed in life, select one value and try to follow it, and erase laziness while giving importance to humility.
Kum. S. Tiffani of class IX delivered the vote of thanks, expressing her gratitude to the guests and attendees. The celebration concluded with Kendra Prarthana.
