Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamil Nadu Vibhag, Natural Resources Development Project (VK-NARDEP) celebrated Gita Jayanti on 18th December 2024 at Eknath Hall, Vivekanandapuram.

The program witnessed the participation of 104 women from 26 Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs). These SHGs actively assist VK-NARDEP in conducting various Vivekananda Kendra activities, including Karyapaddhati, Utsava celebrations, Deepa Puja, and other initiatives in villages around Kanyakumari.

Sri Sadasivam, Branch Manager of the State Bank of India, Vivekanandapuram, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Sri Ramakrishnan, Prakalp Pramukh of VK-NARDEP, welcomed the participants and elaborated on the significance of Gita Jayanti. The Chief Guest addressed the gathering, appreciating the contributions of the SHGs and emphasizing the importance of such celebrations.

As part of the celebrations, various competitions were organized, including a Speech Competition on the topic Indian Cultural Art Forms, a Singing Competition with the theme Grama Devathas, Vegetable Carving, Cooking, Rangoli, a Quiz on Religious Texts, and sports events like Shot Put and Javelin Throw. The participants displayed great enthusiasm and active involvement in all events.

Every year, Swamiji’s Jayanti is celebrated as the annual day for the SHGs, where the winners of these competitions are honored. The day served as a platform to showcase the skills and talents of the women while reinforcing the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and the values of selfless service.
