Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Arunachal Prant, Manipur Vibhag, Imphal Branch, organized a 10-day Yoga Satra from 28th August to 6th September 2024 at the Keli Makhong Community Hall, Sagalband Bijoy Govinda, Thangapat Mapal, Imphal. A total of 27 participants, including the organizing team, attended the Satra regularly and engaged in various yoga practices.
The sessions were held daily from 5.30 a.m. to 7.00 a.m. and included a comprehensive introduction to breathing exercises, loosening practices, asanas, pranayama, and Vaman Dhauti Kriya, which were progressively taught each day. Participants also learned Suryanamaskar as part of the course.
Discussions were an integral part of the Yoga Satra, covering topics such as:
- Yoga Sankalpana – Yujyate anen iti yogah
- Ananda Mimamsa – The universal pursuit of happiness, leading to a state of thoughtlessness and self-forgetfulness (body, mind, intellect), fostering creativity and knowledge
- Ashtanga Yoga – Definitions and insights by Swami Vivekananda, with detailed explanations of its eight limbs.
The meaning of all the mantras and shlokas chanted during the sessions was also explained to participants.
Shri Ashok ji, Manipur Vibhag Sangathak, conducted the sessions each day. He was supported daily by several Kendra karyakartas, including Shri Chandrababu ji, Manipur Vibhag Pramukh, Shri Priyobar ji, Manipur Sah Vibhag Pramukh, Shri Rebatinath ji, Manipur Sah Vibhag Vyavstha Pramukh, Dr. Suleta Didi, Manipur Vibhag Yuva Pramukh, Shri Basanta ji, Manipur Vibhag Karyapaddhati Pramukh, and Sri Themwang Kitnya ji, Imphal Nagar Sangathak, all of whom contributed to the Satra by providing demonstrations and support to the participants.
The Yoga Satra concluded with a programme on 6th September 2024. During the event, certificates were issued to all participants for completing the 10-day introductory course on yoga. The Kendra karyakartas encouraged everyone to continue practicing the asanas and pranayama learned during the Satra to maintain the benefits gained from the practice.
