Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, West Bengal Prant, Paschimbanga Prant, Shanti Niketan Vibhag, Durgapur Nagar celebrated Universal Brotherhood Day at Paramedical College Durgapur, on 12th September 2024. A total of 115 students and faculty members participated in the event.
Universal Brotherhood Day, observed annually on 11th September, commemorates Swami Vivekananda's profound message of universal brotherhood, delivered at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago on 11th September 1893. It is one of the five Utsavas celebrated by Vivekananda Kendra across all its branches and prakalphas in Bharat.
The event was presided over by the Principal of the College, Dr. Sanchita Bandyopadhyay. The program began with the chanting of three Omkars and the Shanti Path by Dr. Sudipta Ghoshal. Sri Subir Ranjan Das, Durgapur Nagar Sanchalak, then introduced the Chief Guests to the audience.
The keynote speaker, Paschim Banga Prant Sangathak Mananeeya Sri Viswasji Lapelkar, delivered an insightful speech on how Narendra became the great monk Swami Vivekananda, the significance of brotherhood, and what we should do for the country today. He also emphasized that Swami Vivekananda belongs not just to Bengal, but to the entire universe.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sudipta Ghoshal, followed by the Shanti Mantra. A picture of Swami Vivekananda, along with his quotes, was distributed to all the attendees.
