Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamil Nadu Vibhag, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kanyakumari, celebrated International Day of Yoga with a grand Yoga session in Swami Vivekananda Sabhagriham at Vivekanandapuram Campus on 21st June 2024.
A total of 776 participants, including VKV students and Kendra staff, practiced asanas and pranayama and took a sankalpa to lead a yoga way of life based on the vision of oneness. Sri M. Krishna Prasath Ji, Regional Organiser, Isha Yoga Centre, Nagercoil, graced the occasion as the Special Guest. Kum. K. Esai Reshma Teacher served as the master of ceremonies.
The programme commenced promptly at 8.00 a.m. with a prayer. Kum. Nivedhini Teacher warmly welcomed the gathering, followed by Smt. Nithya Teacher sharing insights about the significance of the day and conveying the message from Mananeeya Nivedita Didi for Yoga Day.
The Yoga session, led by Smt. Jothi Teacher, began with loosening exercises such as neck bending, neck rotation, knee movement, and neck twisting. Detailed explanations of various asanas were provided by the teacher and demonstrations performed by the students. Yoga postures such as Padha-Hasthasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Trikonasana, Bhadrasana, Ardha Ustrasana, Sasankasana, Vakrasana, Bhujangasana, Salabhasana, and Savasana were performed with great enthusiasm.
Sri M. Krishna Prasath Ji delivered an inspirational speech on yoga and its importance in daily life. He emphasized the role of yoga in self-growth and brain development, and commended the school for integrating yoga into its educational curriculum. As a token of gratitude, the correspondent of the school presented him with a memento. Smt. Kalpana Parvathi Teacher delivered the vote of thanks, and the celebration concluded with the Kendra Prarthana.
