Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamilnadu Vibhag, Thoothukudi Branch, in association with Kamaraj College, celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga with a mass Yoga program on 21st June 2024 at 6 a.m. More than 600 participants, including students from Kamaraj College and various schools, gathered at the Kamaraj College’s ground to actively practice Yogasanas and Pranayama.
The program began with the Shanti Pat, followed by a welcome address from Dr. J. Poongodi, the Principal of Kamaraj College. Rtn. Sri. Mohammed Ibrahim Ji, the President, Rotary Club of Pearl-city Tuticorin, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Mananeeya Sri M. Hanumantha Rao Ji, the All India Vice President of Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Vivekananda Kendra, delivered an inspiring speech on the role of yoga in protecting the body and mind. He emphasized that yoga is not just about Asana and Pranayama practices but a way of life based on the vision of Oneness. He stressed the importance of practicing yoga daily, rather than just on a single day.
Following the speech, Sri Udayakumar Ji, Tamil Nadu Vibhagh IT Pramukh, led the yoga session, during which participants were taught loosening exercises, asanas, and pranayama.
Participation certificates were issued to the students present, and the institutions were honored with mementos. Vivekananda Kendra Thoothukudi Nagar Pramukh, Sri M. Balamurugan Ji, delivered the vote of thanks.
The event was also attended by Vivekananda Kendra Thoothukudi Nagar Sanchalak, Smt. Subathra Vetrivel, the Secretary of Vivekananda Kendra Rural Development Programme, Sri Ayyappan Ji, and faculty members of Kamaraj College. After the programme, break-fast was provided for all the attendees.
