Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamil Nadu Vibhag, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vallioor, organized a training workshop on Mallakambha on 13th November 2024. The event, held from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., featured expert guidance from Shri Uday V. Deshpande ji, a renowned Mallakambha master, along with his assistant, Shri Veerandra Chamankar ji. A total of 41 students enthusiastically participated in the training session.
Mallakambha, a traditional sport of Bharat, uniquely blends gymnastics with yogic principles. Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas consistently strive to preserve and promote traditional martial arts and sports. As part of this endeavor, the training session introduced students to the fundamentals of Mallakambha.
During the introductory session, Shri Uday V. Deshpande emphasized the significance of the sport, explaining its core principles and basic rules. Following this, a demonstration showcased the art of Mallakambha. Separate practice sessions were conducted for boys and girls, allowing all participants to actively engage and learn.
The students showed great enthusiasm and interest throughout the session. This initiative aims to ignite their passion for pursuing Mallakambha in the future. They were also informed about the upcoming World Championship of Mallakambha, scheduled to take place in Pune in 2025, and were encouraged to watch the event on sports channels.
At the conclusion of the program, Shri Uday V. Deshpande and Shri Veerandra Chamankar were honored with mementos by the school’s respected correspondent, Shri S.K. Subramanianji. The workshop concluded with the recitation of the Shanti Mantra.
This training session marked a step forward in promoting traditional Indian sports among young students and inspiring them to embrace the rich cultural heritage of Bharat.
