Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari in association with Snehalaya (a NGO working for differently able children), Tinsukia organized a free assessment camp for deaf and dumb children of below 5 years for Cochlear Implant(a permanent hearing device) on 6th and 7th May 2017 at GNB Civil Hospital, Tinsukia. Dr.Sanjay Sachdeva(Director and Head of ENT , Head and Neck surgery and Cochlear Implant, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, New Delhi) and Dr.Gunajeet Sarma(ENT Surgeon, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, New Delhi) examined fourteen children in the camp and selected six children for Free Cochlear Implants at their Hospital in a phased manner. The surgeries will start from June 2017 and for that counseling were done for the parents of the selected children in the camp itself by the expert team.
On 6th May, the camp was formally inaugurated by Dr.R.Bordoloi, Principal, Tinsukia Women College, Tinsukia. The meeting was attended by many prominent persons of Tinsukia. The Local MLA of Tinsukia, Sri Sanjay Kissan provided the lunch, tea and snacks for the patients, parents of the children, Doctors, Volunteers and Hospital staffs. The felicitation items were donated by Sri Sashi Bhusan Goel, Saha Nagar Sanchalak, Vivekananda Kendra, Tinsukia. The District Administration and Dept. of Health and Family Welfare, Tinsukia extended their full support and cooperation for this unique programme. The visiting Doctors of Max Hospital has shown their interest to come again to serve the deaf and dumb children of this part of our country.
