Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamil Nadu Vibhag, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kanyakumari, organized a Matru Puja at Swami Vivekananda Sabhagriham on 1st February 2025 at 8:30 a.m. A total of 200 people, including students and parents, participated in the event.

The event was presided over by Adharneeya Kum. Priyamvada Didi, Kerala Vibhag Karyalaya Pramukh, Vivekananda Kendra. Smt. Kavitha, a teacher, served as the master of ceremony. The Matru Puja celebration commenced with an invocation song by Kum. Babitha, followed by a welcome address delivered by Smt. Geetha. The significance of Matru Puja was explained by Smt. Uma Selvi, who also narrated the life of Adi Shankaracharya and conducted the Puja ceremony.

Adharneeya Priyamvada Didi addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of family and the deep bond between a mother and her children. She shared her appreciation for witnessing the Paduka Puja and recounted her visit to an orphanage in Nagpur, where children receive food, shelter, and care but miss the warmth of a family bond. She spoke about the endless love shared with family and the need to cherish and value it. She recalled the words of Mananeeya Parameshwaranji, who had once said in a camp, “All of you love your mother endlessly, and that is why you serve our motherland, Bharat.” She further highlighted the idea that the whole family is one home and that cherishing such experiences leads to a fulfilling life.

Towards the conclusion of the celebration, six students and three parents shared their heartfelt experiences of participating in Matru Puja. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Smt. Kalavathy, followed by the chanting of the Shanti Mantra.
