IvonIvan Illich was a Croatian-Austrian philosopher, a rebellious priest, and critical of the institutions of modern Western culture.

During the last days of his life he admitted that he was greatly influenced by one of the Indian economists and an adviser to M.K. Gandhi, J.C. Kumarappa, most notably, his book, Economy of Permanence

The book that brought Ivan Illich to public attention was De-schooling Society (1971), a radical critical discourse on education as practiced in "modern" economies. Giving examples of what he regards as the ineffectual nature of institutionalized education, Illich posited self-directed education, supported by intentional social relations, in fluid informal arrangements. In this issue we have given a few of his quotable quotes.

This time, we have given a very interesting short story of a Man who isolated himself from the Nature. In happenings section, we have covered training programmes on Bio-manure preparation, Bee keeping, Cost effective construction technologies, Bio-gas technology and Traditional Siddha Varma seminar, Networking covers study tours of students and field visits of farmers etc.

In the wisdom section, Gary Gardner explains the need for Preserving crop land, Jules N.Pretty, writes about protein deficiency and thus the need of Aquaculture in integrated farming system and finally D.S.Balain, Former Director, National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources narrates the rich animal germplasm based of India.
