Gurupurnima is one of the five Utsavas celebrated in Vivekananda Kendra. In Kendra, Omkara is revered as the Guru, and every year, Gurupurnima is celebrated grandly by all branch centers of Vivekananda Kendra across Bharat.
This year, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Karnataka Vibhag, RT Nagar branch organized three programs to celebrate Gurupurnima on July 21, 2024, with a total participation of 143 people.
The first program was held at Arsha Vidhya Kendra, Kavalbyrsandra, RT Nagar, with 70 attendees. The program commenced with a prayer, and the Chief Guest along with other guests inaugurated the event with Deepa Prajwalan (lighting the lamp). A skit on the Guru-Shishya relationship was performed, illustrating how a Guru can illuminate the path of knowledge. This was followed by a brief introduction to the service activities of Vivekananda Kendra. A concentration game, ‘Hari OM’, was conducted, in which everyone participated actively and enjoyed.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Shirish M. Aherkar, addressed the participants, enlightening them on the importance of a Guru in everyone's life and how we can always overcome our weaknesses with our strengths. Bhajan Sandhya was also part of the program, and the event concluded with the Shanti Mantra. Prasada was served to all participants.
Another program was held at the Samskar Varga in MS Convent School with 28 students. The program began with three Omkaras, followed by a subhashita and a discussion on Guru Purnima. All students shared who their Gurus in life are, recited the Guru Shloka, and sang Guru Bhajans. The Varga concluded with the Shanti Mantra, Kendra Prarthana, and Prasada distribution.
Gurupurnima was also celebrated at the Samhitha School of Performing Arts with 31 participants. The program started with three Omkaras, followed by Guru Shloka and Guru Bhajans. Sri Bharath Anna spoke about the Guru-Shishya Parampara. The children expressed their gratitude to their Gurus and shared wonderful stories.
