Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Keralam Prant, Pathanamthitta Branch, undertook a Flood Relief Seva Activity to support families affected by the severe floods in Pathanamthitta district during August 2026. As part of the initiative, educational material kits were distributed to 230 school-going children on 27 September 2026, with the active involvement of 30 Karyakartas.
During the first week of August 2026, Pathanamthitta district experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall, with more than 300 mm of rain recorded on 1 August. The overflowing of the Pamba, Manimala and Meenachil rivers resulted in widespread flooding, waterlogging and landslides in the Pamba river basin and surrounding areas. Several localities were submerged under 2 to 2.5 feet of water, with roads blocked and floodwater entering numerous houses, causing extensive damage to household belongings.
Responding to the situation, Shri Vivek Ji, Sanyojak - Vivekananda Kendra Pathanamthitta and Kottayam, along with Karyakartas of Vivekananda Kendra and Balagokulam, visited the flood-affected areas. They conducted surveys in Ranni, Kozhencherry, Thiruvalla, Eraviperoor, Mallappally and nearby villages to assess the difficulties faced by the affected families.
During the survey, the Karyakartas observed that many school-going children had lost their school bags, textbooks, notebooks and other educational materials in the floods. Recognizing the difficulties this would create in continuing their education, the team decided to provide essential educational supplies to the affected students.
Accordingly, on 27 September 2026, Karyakartas visited the affected families and distributed educational material kits containing a school bag, books, notebooks, pens, pencils, a sharpener, an eraser and a scale. While most kits were delivered directly to the beneficiaries at their homes, some families received them from the Pathanamthitta Balagokulam Karyalayam.
Through this initiative, 230 students received educational material kits, supported by the dedicated efforts of 30 Karyakartas. The assistance helped the children replace essential learning materials lost during the floods and supported their return to regular educational activities.
