13 January 2013 Vadodara - The city celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda by organizing a grand procession and making a Guinness World Record on Saturday.
The procession in the city was planned by Swami Vivekananda Sardh Shati Samaroh Samiti formed to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Vivekananda.
Tableaux of various organizations, education institutes, religious sects and others were a part of the procession.
The procession began and culminated at Navlakhi Grounds. It passed through Kothi Crossroads, Raopura, Gandhi Nagargruh, Nyay Mandir and Rajmahal Road.
Students of BRG Sports-Culture-Education Forum, Urmi School and GPS School got an entry into the Guinness World Records for making the largest human torch.
The event was held at Akota Stadium in the city and adjudicators of the Guinness World Records were also present.
At least 1,538 students formed the torch for eight minutes to make the record. The torch was 186-feet-long and 54-feet-broad.
A crane was used to photograph the event and facilitate its adjudication.
The events were planned in the city as Vivekananda had stayed in the city for a few days during the reign of Maharaja Sayajirao III. Vivekananda also held Sayajirao in high esteem.
