13 January 2013 Kanpur - Nearly 1,000 students, representatives of social and voluntary organizations and members of Swami Vivekanand Samiti took out a shobha yatra on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on Saturday.

13 January 2013 Kanpur - Nearly 1,000 students, representatives of social and voluntary organizations and members of Swami Vivekanand Samiti took out a shobha yatra on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on Saturday.

This day is observed as 'National Youth Day'.The shobha yatra, having 60 tableaux, was flagged off by representatives of Vivekananda Society. Over 500 big and small vehicles were part of the yatra. It started from Phoolbagh ground and crossed areas like Birhana Road, Nayaganj, Ghantaghar and Moolganj. Another yatra was taken out from Bajariya and Ashoknagar which came to an end at Mootijheel, where it was converted into a meeting. Members of Gayatri Parivar and ISCON temple also took part in the yatra.

Tableaux of Bharat Mata, Kali Mata and Swami Ram Krishna Param Hans were also included in the yatra.

A number of programmes were organised by different socio-cultural organisations.

Symposiums and lectures were held in schools and colleges on the occasion.

Kayasthas commorated the day by honouring the youth of the community for their achievements.

Swami Vivekananda, born as Narendra Nath Datta, was a key figure in the introduction of Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the western world.

He was also credited with raising inter-faith awareness and bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion in the late 19th century.
