Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamil Nadu Vibhag, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vallioor, celebrated Sri Krishna Janmashtami and Raksha Bandhan on 24th August 2024 at the school premises. A total of 1,100 participants including 950 students and 150 parents took part in the celebration.
The distinguished Chief Guest for the occasion was Smt. Janaki Pushpam, Tirunelveli District Coordinator of VK-RDP. Along with the Chief Guest, the Correspondent and the Principal were also present on the dais. The entire campus was adorned with colorful decorations.
The program started with a prayer song by the Kindergarten students. The honorable Chief Guest, Correspondent, and Principal inaugurated the programme with Deepa Prajwalan (lighting the lamp), followed by a welcome address by Kum. Anu Suji of Class VII. Students then chanted verses from the Geeta. A delightful dance performance depicted the playful nature of Lord Krishna, surrounded by a vibrant "Brindhavan" of flowers.
Teacher Smt. Muthumari delivered a speech in English about Krishna Jayanthi and Raksha Bandhan, followed by a similar speech in Tamil by Smt. Thilaga. A dance was also performed, showcasing the mischievousness of Lord Kannan.
The traditional pot-breaking event, known as "Uriyadi," was enacted by a student dressed as Krishna. Lord Krishna distributed sweets to the Chief Guest. The students who were dressed as Krishnas and Radhas were appreciated with compliments.
Rakhis were tied between the brothers and sisters of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions held earlier. The Chief Guest, Smt. Janaki Pushpam, addressed the gathering, and the Principal shared valuable thoughts with the students.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sri Mani Shankar of Class IX, followed by the Kendra Prarthana. Many parents also participated in the program and thoroughly enjoyed it.
