Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamil Nadu Vibhag, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vallioor celebrated the Pongal festival with great joy and enthusiasm on 11th January 2025 at the school premises. The event witnessed active participation from 650 attendees, including students and staff.
Pongal is a traditional harvest festival marking the beginning of the auspicious Tamil month of Thai. It spans four days: Boghi, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal, and Kaanum Pongal.
The celebration began with the Tamizh Thaai Vazhthu, followed by a prayer song sung by the students. The Correspondent of the School, Sri S.K. Subramanian Ji, and the Principal, Sri Muthukrishnan Ji, presided over the program.
The students decorated the stage with a vibrant and colorful dance performance depicting the importance of Pongal. The teachers prepared traditional Pongal in mud pots, and Sri Bharthiraja, one of the teachers, shared insights into the significance of the festival.
The program also featured a captivating silambam martial arts performance by the students, along with two delightful dance performances by girls from classes 7 to 9. A Rangoli competition was organized, with boys and girls participating actively in their respective categories.
The Principal, Sri T. Muthukrishnan Ji, shared his thoughts on the celebration of Pongal, while the Correspondent performed a ceremonial puja by lighting the lamp. The freshly prepared Pongal was distributed to all the students as prasadam.
The program was anchored by Smt. Devi, Teacher and concluded with the Kendra Prarthana. The celebration filled everyone with a sense of joy and cultural pride.
