As a run up to the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda, the National hero of the Youth of India, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari has launched a massive youth contact programme. The movement has been named as ‘Vijay Hi Vijay’ – throughout the country, to take the life and message of Swami Vivekananda to the youth of India.
Velga Velgavey
Velga Velgavey is the Vijay Hi Vijay programme in Tamilnadu. A book titled ‘Velga velgavey’ is prescribed to the youth who will read the book and write an examination. The book contains Life and Message of Swami Vivekananda and that of Subramania Bharathiar, the patriotic Tamil poet, inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s message. Those who get through the examination will attend one day camp in their respective districts. From these camps 2000 youth are selected for the Mega Camp to be held from 22nd to 26th January 2011 at Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy Science College, Aruppukkottai Road, Madurai.
The culmination
The culmination of the whole process will be with a Five day Youth Camp [Velga Velgavey] from 22-01-2011 to 26-01-2011. 26th January 2011 has three important coincidences. Apart from the Republic day, on this day in 1897 Swami Vivekananda touched the feet of Bharat Mata at Kundukaal near Rameswaram. 26th January 2011 is also the birthday of Swami Vivekananda as per Indian calendar. These three occasions are symbolic of the three seas which meet at Kanyakumari. Hence it was planned to have the confluence of youth energy on that day. Planning is underway to assemble 2000 youth from all over Tamilnadu for this Mega Camp.
