With the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda approaching, Vivekananda Kendra has taken up the task inspiring youth for nation building work.
We believe that by strengthening the youth, we can strengthen the nation. ‘Velga Velgavey’ is a program designed for this purpose.
Preliminary selection :
As per the programs structure, we will be conducting prelims for the students on a book –‘Velga Velgavey’ specifically designed for the purpose. The book will contain selected lectures by Swami Vivekananda and inspiring articles, centered on the theme of National rejuvenation. Exams can be taken in either English or Tamil.
The One Day Get together:
This will be taken further by conducting a 1 – Day camp for selected students, who come under specific criteria, based on their performance in the Exam. The date and Venue for the 1 – Day camp will be decided, taking into consideration the academic commitments of the students and the total number. The students will get to meet other students from various other colleges within Chennai. They will also get the privilege of listening to some inspiring lectures by eminent scholars, who will take part in the camp. The 1 – Day camp is conceived with the idea of providing students with a platform to interact among themselves and come-up with innovative ideas to build India!
THE FIVE DAY CAMP:
After the one day get together with the participants a five day camp will be held at madurai.

Vivekananda Kendra is a spiritually oriented service mission. The magnificent Vivekananda Rock Memorial at Kanyakumari serves as a reminder to all about the glorious message of Swami Vivekananda and the work that he wanted the future generations to take up.
The prime-mover behind the construction of the Rock Memorial, Shri Eknath Ranade, was convinced that in spite of all its grandeur, a rock and mortar structure cannot be a befitting memorial to a man who personified will power and humble service. So he founded the Vivekananda Kendra as a living, dynamic memorial to Swami Vivekananda, to spread his message of "Man-making and Nation-Building" to every nook and every corner of this land.
