The report for the activities, conducted by VKRDP, during the month of JUNE 2010 is detailed below, for your kind information:
1. Through 75 Balwadis, 1,767 rural Children were nurtured. In the Balwadis, Malt, Hygienically prepared highly nutritive lunch were served, with vegetables, and evening vitamin rich cereals were provided to the children.
2. In Medicare Programme, 1,185 patients were examined and treated for various common ailments, through 15 Rural Medical C entres.
3. In 211 Samskara Vargas, 6,854 students participated. The students were taught about the values of Indian Culture, through games and lessons. The feelings of oneness are strengthened among participants, through patriotic songs and games.
4. Under Sponsor A Grand Parent Programme, 62 destitutes - old people were provided with monthly solatium, in the form of rice, dhal, oil, etc., for their livelihood.
5. With the assistance of Aravind Eye Hospital, Tirunelve li Free Eye Screening Camps were organised at four places. 339 patients were screened and 90 were operated for cataract.
6. Village level Deepa Poojas were organised in 263 temples with 8,499 women participants, who offered their prayers to God for the welfare of all people. On 13.06.2010, 1008 deepa poojas were conducted at Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli district 1000 ladies participated from 46 villages.

7. Our Vivekananda Kendra workers have collected 955Kgs of rice, from the people of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar Districts, under Amrita Surabhi Scheme.
8. Through various branch centres and Book stalls, Rs.33,098/- worth of literature books were sold.
9. Subscriptions for 130 Vivekavani were collected.
10. 80 women are serving in 4 Self Help Groups in Kanyakumari district. AMBASAMUDRAM 1008 DEEPA POOJA.
11. Swadhyaya Varga was organised in Paramakudi and 36 persons participated in it.
12. Yoga Varga is being conducted at three places in Thoothukudi, Ramnad and Aruppukottai and 72 persons attended.
13. Four Tailoring units are functioning in Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts and total attendance is 39.
14. Shivalinga Poojas were conducted at two places in Kanyakumari District and 105 members participated.
15. Durga Pooja was conducted in Peyankuzhy at Kanyakumari District, and 51 women worshipped in Devi pooja.
16. Chanting of Sri Rama Jaya Rama Mantra was held during Deepa Pooja, Shivalinga Pooja and also daily by our balwadi school children, cultural class students and during in monthly meetings by our balwadi teachers and Social Workers. Every month nearly 3,25,450 times mantras were chanted in 135 localities.
17. On 13.06.2010, Personality development camp was conducted at Kumarapuram in Thoothukudi District of Tamil Nadu, 26 students were participated.
18. Karyakartha camp was held at Surandai in Tirunelveli District 48 persons were participated from Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts.

19. On 27.06.2010, Mathru Pooja was held at Valliyoor in Tirunelveli district 100 parents were participated.

20. Swami Vivekanandar pictures were pasted in 195 houses from 2 villages in Virudhunagar District.

21. Under Mahalakshmi Glass works Private Limited, Mumbai 325 girl children were provided educational aids.

22. Every month we are distributing the rice which is collected through Amrit Surabhi and Anna pooja to Balwadi children, old poor people and also the following trust, educational institutions etc.,

INSPIRING INCIDENTS
(from our balwadi teachers & workers)
1. Smt. R. Arumugam, Eravipudur, Kanyakumari District:
Master G. Mahalingam who was a student of our crèche has became the school first student in +2 exam. I was so happy to hear the news. Further his father has advised him to get the blessings of Arumugam teacher who has made him a good student. He came and fell at my feet and gave sweets which made me feel so happy which I cannot forget.
2. N. Chandra(Social worker), Arumugapatti, Tirunelveli District:
Senthil Murugan who studies in our crèche in 1990 has now completed his graduation and is working in a sugar mill. We have collected some of the construction materials for the crèche buildings and entrusted them to Sri Senthil Murugan. He took the entire responsibility of completing the structure; he also helps in all crèche functions.
3. Bhavani, Nagalapuram, Thoothukudi District:
Venkatesh Maharaja a crèche child shifted with his parents from Nagalapuram to Coimbatore. In his new school Venkatesh Maharaja started singing loudly, the songs taught in the Nagalapuram Kendra crèche in Thoothukudi district. On his teachers’ enquiry he declared himself to be the student of Bhavani, the Kendra bala-sevika; The new teacher encouraged him to continue his singing. Bhavani was happy when the news of this incident reached her.
4. M. Chinna Mariammal, Nagalap uram, Thoothukudi District:
The bala-sevika came to her crèche a bit late one day. Saranya a child questioned her. Chinna Mariammal promised her to be in time from the next day onwards.
5. Rama Sethupathi, Keela Mundhal, Ramnad District:
We teach the crèche children a number of proverbs and explain to them the meaning also. One child was to be punished at home for some mischief. Then he quoted the proverb that when people get angry they loose their sense of justice. The punishing hand came down sparing the child.
The crèche building which was a community property was in a dilapidated condition. Under the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve Trust a good building has been constructed for the crèche.
